What's your white rabbit?

My friend Chandan called me yesterday and told me the challenges he faces after he was fired from his job. He was doing well in customer support but laid off in the company's restructuring exercise. Now, he is not getting any calls and hence was quite depressed. I explained to him about so many career choices available these days. Those like video editors, YouTubers, internet marketers, and so, asked him to pick some new skills on the technical and mindset front. He didn't seem excited and went on ranting about all the problems in life, blaming his parents and everyone around him. I just kept quiet, listened to him, and finally said, "do let me know if I can be of help".  This incident reminded me of the man's lovely story in a remote town. I love it because it's the story of your life. And mine. And everyone else's. It seems the man was an honest, hard-working who never hurt a fly.  Pleased with his excellent work, a fairy magically appeared before him an...

And it worked for her for the first five years of her career till the time she was an individual contributor. She called me last week and said, "You are already a talented communicator; why do you still learn public speaking skills." I laughed and asked her why she is asking so. She said, "I am frustrated with my career these days. Neither my boss understands my situation nor my team works as per plan. You said in one of your sessions that improving "crucial conversations can help. But why would a talented person like me need to learn dialogue skills".  I quoted Kerry, "It's the most talented, not the least talented, who are continually trying to improve their dialogue skills. ...

Is Overconfidence killing your decision-making abilities too?

My friend Binny Brown was one of the most overconfident guys I have seen. He started a service-based IT company in 2015, but his arrogance and overconfidence never allowed him to make the right decisions. He is too much intruding, likes to fire people, never trust any of his employees. However, he called me and said, "I struggle to retain even one trustworthy team member and feels too much pressure. Can you help me?"  I explained to him to take business as a vehicle to achieve his life aspirations instead of running a business like a job and trying to do everything by himself. And importantly, learning how to make decisions by controlling his overconfidence.  Being confident is one thing and being overconfident is another. Researchers have found that those who think intelligence is fixed and unchangeable tend to be overconfident. "Such people tend to maintain their overconfidence by concentrating on the easy parts of tasks while spending as little time as possible on the...

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱?

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱?  My friend Vachaspati was assigned on a very important project which would have certainly given him the next level of growth in his job. He was so excited about it when he told me about it last month.  It was just a week's assignment, and he started working on it. To my surprise, he called me last week saying he missed the golden opportunity and someone else has been promoted. He could easily finish the assignment but got distracted by the Republic TV and "Breaking bad" web series on Netflix. Isn't that surprising? 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂? Thank You!
