What's your white rabbit?

My friend Chandan called me yesterday and told me the challenges he faces after he was fired from his job. He was doing well in customer support but laid off in the company's restructuring exercise. Now, he is not getting any calls and hence was quite depressed. I explained to him about so many career choices available these days. Those like video editors, YouTubers, internet marketers, and so, asked him to pick some new skills on the technical and mindset front. He didn't seem excited and went on ranting about all the problems in life, blaming his parents and everyone around him. I just kept quiet, listened to him, and finally said, "do let me know if I can be of help".  This incident reminded me of the man's lovely story in a remote town. I love it because it's the story of your life. And mine. And everyone else's. It seems the man was an honest, hard-working who never hurt a fly.  Pleased with his excellent work, a fairy magically appeared before him an...

Let the good make the noise!!

An aspiring youth joined a daily as an apprentice. After three days of rigorous training and induction, his boss told him, "why don't you go to the field and come back with a story worth publishing". He roamed around the streets and tolerated the heat for close to six hours, but in vain. He was returning to the office with a sense of failure as he hadn't collected a worthwhile story. He came to a junction where three roads met in a 'Y' formation.  He suddenly noticed two buses speeding towards the junction from the two opposite roads, oblivious of what they were heading for. An accident seemed almost inevitable. The young reporter used his presence of mind, ran to the two roads' meeting point, vigorously waved both his hands, screamed at the top of his voice, and eventually succeeded in stopping both the buses just a few nanoseconds before the mishap. Hundreds of passengers from both the buses took the youth's hand into theirs and thanked him profusely...

It's the circle of life!

At the insistence of my 5-year-old daughter, we went to see 'The Lion King' movie. To my surprise, the movie offered several life lessons to me. However, my favorite takeaway is the so-called 'The Circle of Life'. It is such a big symbolic deal in The Lion King too that it gets its song. It's the circle of life And it moves us all Through despair and hope Through faith and love 'Til we find our place On the path unwinding In the circle The circle of life It reminded me again that we were put on the earth for a reason. We have a role to play in the world. Can’t get lazy and give up on things. There are people that need us in their lives, lessons we must learn, and mistakes we must make. Have to take our place in the natural flow of things. Perhaps a fictional speaking lion has got more sense than most of us real-life people. ;)

I always used to advise my friend Vinay to upskill himself on the communication skills, but he never paid heed to it since he thought he is able to finish his current tasks with his technical skills only. But a few months back, he came to know that downsizing started in his organization. To his surprise, he found that and one of the reasons management was able to fire people was their poor communication. This time he decided to start up-skilling himself on communication skills with us, but it was too late. He, unfortunately, could not save his job (I helped him with another job but almost at 60% less salary)?
